What is Stream Server?

Stream Server is a professional live broadcasting application with enterprise-level features and functionality at a low price. The standalone application employs proprietary cooperative multicast technology, the core of Neokast’s business, to deliver substantial cost savings and scalability to online broadcasters. Neokast developed the software for the purpose of delivering the industry’s most secure, reliable and cost-effective solution for streaming live video content over the Internet.

Stream Server highlights:

  • Software is easily downloaded and enables publishers to begin streaming right away
  • No limitation on bandwidth or the number of viewers
  • No built-in constraints on bit rates or video resolution
  • Advanced viewer statistics and analytics available through online portal
  • Real-time, continuous feedback on stream quality and viewer experience
  • Automated error reporting to both the publisher and Neokast Customer Support

Stream Server enables businesses, website owners and bloggers to create 24/7 channels of live streaming video, broadcast special events, shows and concerts, and manage libraries of content to be streamed live over the Internet. Neokast provides an end-to-end solution and offers tiered bandwidth support packages. There are no upfront charges or costly long-term commitments.

A new website was released at www.neokast.com this week! Besides the sleeker design and a lot of reformatting there are some added features and navigation capabilities. Pay us a visit and you’ll find quite a few improvements such as the ability to continue browsing content while watching live streams.

Neokast_Website_4.4.2008

Expect the website to continue to evolve over the coming weeks and months. We have some big designs for delivering the greatest live online broadcast experience on the planet, and as always we gladly welcome your suggestions and feedback at questions@neokast.com.

We are also excited to be fully supporting Firefox users now! In the next week we should have added Safari and Opera support making our Stream Player fully compatible with all of the major web browsers.

The next milestone in our development will be the release of a “lite” Stream Player with no .net requirement and an ultra fast installation time. This is also going to be released next week so be sure to update your current player when prompted. Looking further ahead, we are investing a lot of resources into delivering full Mac support and have made it a top priority of ours.

Thanks for visiting and please stay tuned for many more developments to come!

What will we demo at Video on the Net 2007?

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

A good demonstration should both spark and answer many questions. We intend to do both. Many of your questions have not even surfaced because Neokast is a new technology. We are not the top down CDN that currently dominates the distribution of short video clips. We are also more sophisticated than even the distributed grid networks. Neither of these tech strategies provide the competitive advantages for content publishers and content viewers that Neokast does.

Lets look at the questions people are afraid to ask about online video distribution…

Television and the Internet

Sunday, February 18th, 2007

Tom Evslin at Fractals of Change describes the current state of IPTV…

As you know, there’s plenty of video on the Web. You can go to YouTube and see almost anything you want, most of it dreadful but some of it pretty good. You can also post your own videos on YouTube and you can vote on YouTube videos to try to help other people find the good ones. But this isn’t TV, at least as we’ve known it…

…But all of the above still isn’t TV as we know it and doesn’t replace it (yet):

  • Most of the content we can get on network and cable TV is not available on the Internet.

  • Most Internet content is low def, certainly not the high definition stuff that makes you run out and buy an expensive LCD screen.

  • With the exception of baseball, you can’t get realtime major league sports or much else in real time (except webcams).”

Stop the Presses, Google Makes Gmail Available to All

Wednesday, February 14th, 2007

I guess that makes my 99 invitations less sought after.

“Google co-founder Sergey Brin said the company plans to introduce subscription options for heavy users later this year; the company’s photo-hosting service charges $25 per year for 6.25GB of storage and $500 for 250GB.

We can’t afford to give away everything for free,” Brin told AP.”

Hmmmm.
