Many of you might be wondering, how have we gotten to 3.0?

Flash Crowd 1.0 started in the 90s with the Slashdot Effect. Something interesting happened on a website, and all of a sudden, millions of people would visit the site out of curiosity.

Flash Crowd 2.0 started this mid-decade with popular video clips or social networking sites. Something interesting would be recorded on video and archived, or some new Internet phenomenon would occur, prompting millions of people to “watch.” The quality and overall user experience suffered, but since it was the only thing that existed at the time, people settled.

Flash Crowd 3.0 starts mid-2007. Something interesting will be live streamed and immediately millions of people will watch it in real time with high quality. If they are a little late, of course they can view the archive and catch up.
